New rumors in the Chinese automotive press saying the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) wants to revive the once famous ‘Shanghai‘ brand. Media say that the first car to be Shanghaied is the slow-selling Roewe 950. To prove the facts the story comes with photos showing a Roewe 950 with Shanghai badges.

There is however a small problem with these photos: they are exactly two years old. They first appeared on the Chinese interwebs on January 6 2012, fueling similar rumors about the resurrection of the Shanghai brand, but that never happened.  In November 2012 we saw spy shots of a Roewe 750 with Shanghai badges, again with rumors about the Shanghai brand, but again nothing happened.

It is very well possible that SAIC is still considering reviving the brand. Rumors usually come from somewhere, but sure it is certainly not! We will keep an eye on new developments…
