Homologation fillings revealed that Changan plans to launch its first EV with battery swap support.

From the photos, we can tell that the new Changan Oshan S20 sedan is an all-electric version of the Changan Nevo A05 plug-in hybrid (PHEV). However, this time, Changan decided to launch it under the Oshan sub-brand. Nevo A05 is itself a PHEV variant of the petrol-powered Changan Eado (previously known as Changan Yida).

Changan didn’t officially unveil the name of the new battery-swapping EV; however, from its homologation application, we see the S20 badge on the rear of the car. Some media read it as 520. However, as Oshan’s naming nomenclature always goes with a letter followed by a number (Oshan Z6, Oshan X7, Oshan X70, etc.), we will stick to Oshan S20.

The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery is supplied by United Auto Battery Co. Ltd., a joint venture between CATL and SAIC. Nio’s batteries compatible with its swap stations are ternary NMC and provided by CATL only, and we do not expect Oshan S20 to be able to use Nio’s battery swapping infrastructure.

The Oshan S20 is a mid-size sedan with dimensions 4770/1840/1470 mm and a wheelbase of 2765 mm. Its curb weight is 1,535 kg.

The power comes from a single motor with 105 kW output, suitable for 135 km/h top speed. This suggests the S20 will be an entry-level EV. Oshan S20 will be assembled in Changan’s plant in Chongqing.

Changan was the first Nio’s partner for battery swapping infrastructure sharing, announcing the partnership in November last year. For Changan, Oshan S20 will be the first EV with battery swap support. The new EV will launch soon as the homologation application to the regulator under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MITT) is the last step before hitting the market.
