Dongfeng has announced the launch of the new M-Hero 917 Dragon Armor Edition, scheduled for September 24. Pre-sales have already begun, with a price range of 768,000 to 868,000 yuan (109,000 to 123,000 USD). This model originally debuted at the Beijing Auto Show and has a collaboration with the upcoming Chinese movie “Operation Leviathan”.

The vehicle has an exclusive “Desert Storm Military Yellow” color and a contrasting silver roof. The car has a unique vertical grille layout, fully enclosed rotary forged wheels, wide military-style fenders, a lightweight front crash bar, and a multi-functional spare tire bracket at the rear. The spare tire bracket is also pre-fitted with a flagpole expansion port and a high-position brake light bracket.

Additionally, the SUV is equipped with a multi-functional rear tow hook and an integrated RV power port. The vehicle is rated for a maximum towing capacity of 2.5 tons, making it suitable for towing RVs, motorcycles, and boats. Optional configurations include wheel covers, side toolboxes, roof platforms, auxiliary high-beam lights, front and rear clearance lights, towing holes, and electrical connectors.

The car uses aerospace-grade forged carbon fiber materials, covering key areas such as the front and rear metal bumpers, hood, and roof. Carbon fiber covers 22.3% of the car. Various outdoor tools, including a fire ax, fuel tank, shovel, and fire extinguisher are mounted on the exterior brackets of the SUV.

According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the new vehicle’s dimensions are 5052/2150/2059 mm, with a wheelbase of 2950. The current Mengshi 917 measures 4987/2080/1935 millimeters, with the same wheelbase, meaning the Dragon Armor version is slightly larger.

The vehicle is available in both pure EV and EREV versions, like the base M-Hero 917. The pure EV version has a four-motor drive system with a total power output of 800 kW. It has a CLTC range of up to 505 km. The EREV version is powered by a 1.5T range extender system, with a maximum power of 145 kW, matching the power of the current models. The combined systems offer a CLTC range of up to 1,032 km.

M-Hero is a brand under the state-owned Dongfeng that makes military-inspired off-road vehicles for the public. M-Hero 917 can trace its design to the Dongfeng Mengshi light utility vehicle currently in-use by the Chinese military. The original M-Hero 917 was launched in August 2023 and has been tested for overseas export in Switzerland and the Middle East.
