On June 24th, 2024, Nio and FAW Hongqi officially reached a charging network interconnection cooperation agreement. This is the first concrete project following the strategic cooperation framework signed between Nio and China FAW Group on May 21st and will provide FAW Hongqi users with the widely accessible and efficient network of chargers Nio provides. Just two months ago Nio signed a similar deal with GAC.

Under the agreement, FAW Hongqi will be fully integrated into Nio’s charging network. FAW Hongqi users can use the Hongqi Smart App to view real-time information on Nio charging pile locations, prices, status, and availability across the country. They can then complete the charging process – from finding a charging pile to payment – through a streamlined operation. This is a significant upgrade compared to their current charging experience.

Since its establishment, Nio has continuously invested in upgrading its charging and battery-swapping technologies and product R&D, while steadily expanding its charging and swapping infrastructure. On June 13th, Nio officially launched its first batch of fourth-generation battery swapping stations and 640kW fully liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging piles, bringing an improved charging and swapping experience.

As of June 24th, Nio has built 2,435 battery swapping stations and 22,705 charging piles nationwide, including 804 high-speed swapping stations and 1,666 high-speed super-charging piles – making Nio the automotive brand with the most extensive battery swapping and charging network coverage in China. Currently, Nio serves over 80% of its charging services to users outside its brand, having already achieved charging interconnection with car brands like Hongqi, Deepal, Aion, Zeekr, Lotus, Cadillac, Buick, and XPeng.

The new partnership with FAW Hongqi further strengthens Nio’s open-sharing charging strategy and comes in a succession of other similar partnerships. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Nio team up with other car makers soon.
