Chery’s upcoming off-road style SUV called the Traveller under its Jetour brand will start pre-sale on August 24, according to Jetour dealers in China. The price range is expected to be 129,800 – 166,900 yuan (18,000 – 23,100 USD), and delivery will officially start in September. The Traveller targets consumers who travel in light/normal off-road conditions.

Positioned as a mid-sized SUV, the car measures 4785/2006/1800mm, with a 2800mm wheelbase. Its ground clearance is 220mm, its approach angle is 28°, and its departure angle is 30°. In terms of appearance, the Traveller is boxy with big bumpers, wide arches, sidebars, and roof racks. The car runs on either 18-inch or 20-inch aluminium wheels. In addition, the rear design is typical for an off-road SUV with a large spare wheel cover and a wide high-mounted brake light. The taillight adopts a vertical layout and uses LED lights. A tow hook is also present.

The Traveller will be available with ICE and PHEV powertrains. There will be two ICE options: a 1.5T + 7-speed DCT available in front-wheel drive and a 2.0T + 8 AT equipped with BorgWarner’s sixth-generation four-wheel drive system. The 1.5T engine outputs 135 kW while the 2.0T engine has a maximum power of 187 kW and a peak torque of 390 Nm. Its comprehensive fuel consumption is 8.35L/100km and 8.83L/100km, respectively.

The PHEV version will use a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor, mated to a 3-speed DHT. Jetour claims that the PHEV version will be able to achieve more than a 1,000 km comprehensive cruising range, and is expected to launch later in November.

Inside, the interior is equipped with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 15.6-inch central control screen that has a built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. The 1.5T entry-level version comes with front seat ventilation and heating, adaptive cruising control, eight airbags, and 64-color ambient lights. The 2.0T high-end version offers front soundproof glass, suede seats, 128-color ambient lights, 10 airbags, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system.
