On April 3, BYD officially revealed its 2023 e2 compact pure electric hatchback, based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0. It is expected to launch on April 6 and is available for purchase under the BYD Ocean series product line. The car was mainly aimed at the ride-hailing market before, but now BYD is rebranding it as a family car.

In terms of appearance, the 2023 BYD e2 front face has been upgraded with a new closed grille, a bigger BYD brand logo without a colored background, the narrow and long headlights are connected by a horizontal black trim, and a three-stage air intake grille decoration.

The size of the 2023 BYD e2 is 4260/1760/1530mm and a wheelbase of 2610mm, which is 20mm longer than the current model. Additionally, it has a silver roof rack, a small window between the C and D pillars, and runs on large multi-spoke wheels. The fast charging port is at the right front fender.

Power will come from an 8-in-1 electric powertrain based on the e-Platform 3.0 with a permanent magnet synchronous drive motor with a maximum power of 70 kW. It will also be equipped with BYD’s Blade batteries with a capacity of 33.2 kWh and 43.2 kWh, corresponding to a cruising range of 301 km and 401 km, respectively, according to the Chinese MIIT. As of now, there is no additional detailed information about the powertrain.

Lastly, although the official interior image has not been released, the previous spy photo showed that the 2023 BYD e2 will have an 8.8-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 12.8/10.1-inch rotatable central control screen for the high-end and entry-level models, respectively. There is also some circular elements on the door trim and the central console.
