Spy Shots: new Hyundai Elantra testing in China
Hyundai will bring the new Elantra, called Avante in some markets, to China in June next year. The Elantra will be made in China by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture. Engines: 1.6 and 1.8, mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
Beijing-Hyundai currently makes two generations Elantra side by side: the current ‘new’ Elantra is called Elantra Dongyue and the old Elantra is simply called Elantra. The last car is mostly sold to taxi companies, the Elantra Dongyue is a popular affordable car for families. It is not yet sure what will happen to these current cars. Earlier we heard they would both continue and that the new-new Elantra (Avante) would get a different name.
