Lynk & Co 900 is a flagship six-seater SUV designed for families, and it is expected to go on sale soon in March 2025. Recently, it passed the double crash test designed to test the safety of the third row, where children are often seated. The test was streamed on CCTV, the biggest state-owned television channel in China.

The car was hit twice during the test, in the first rear-end collision test, the Lynk & Co 900 was subjected to a 100 km/h impact, compared to the C-NCAP standard of 80 km/h. The car took 1.56 times more collision energy than the legal standard. In the second third-row side crash test, the car survived a 100 km/h collision. And it took four times the energy of the C-NCAP national standard’s 50 km/h test.

As a result of the test, the car’s structure held up, and there was enough survival space for passengers with no fire risk. Later, it was announced that the car passed the test by the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI). The Spa Evo architecture was an important factor in the car’s ability to pass the test. The Spa Evo was a co-engineered platform by Lynk & Co and Volvo, a brand known for its safety features and now owned by Geely (Lynk & Co’s parent company).

According to china’s official car crash statistics, the third-row passenger death rate reaches 34%, which is 5.7 times the average. Severe injury rates exceed 62%, making third-row safety a concern in rear-end and side collisions. Many families are not worried about passenger safety, especially in six-seater cars for two-child households. And the number of multi-child families in China is rising due to the cancellation of the one-child policy.
