BYD has officially started pre-sales for the Seal 05 DM-i hybrid sedan in China, offering three variants priced between 89,800 to 109,800 yuan (12,250 to 15,000 USD). The Seal 05 DM-i is the fifth addition to the Seal family and features BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, designed for the affordable family sedan market.

The Seal 05 DM-i measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,837 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,718 mm. It is 50 mm shorter than the Seal 06 DM-i and 20 mm shorter than the original Seal EV. The design incorporates wave-shaped LED headlights, a trapezoidal blacked-out front grille, and U-shaped air inlets. At the rear, the model features a full-width light bar.

The vehicle is powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a maximum output of 74 kW and a 120 kW electric motor produced by BYD’s Changsha division. It uses BYD’s Blade Battery, which is available in two capacities: 7.68 kWh and 15.9 kWh. These batteries offer an electric range of 43 km and 90 km WLTC, respectively. Fuel consumption in hybrid mode is between 3.9 and 3.98 L/100 km, and the combined range on a full charge and tank exceeds 2,000 km.

The interior includes a three-spoke steering wheel, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a central touchscreen. A crystal gear shifter is surrounded by physical buttons for essential functions. The base model weighs 1,480 kg, while higher trims weigh 1,580 kg. All versions offer 16 or 17-inch wheels.

The Seal family contributed 389,339 units to BYD’s total NEV sales of 4,272,145 units in 2024. In December alone, the Seal lineup sold 45,937 units. The Seal 05 DM-i joins other models in the Seal family, such as the Seal 06 DM-i and Seal 07 DM-i.
