The Jiyue 07 electric liftback, a collaborative project between Geely and Baidu, is undergoing comprehensive testing in Heihe, China, to assess its performance in challenging cold weather conditions. Recently leaked spy photos provide insights into the vehicle’s capabilities in sub-zero temperatures.

For a bit of background, the car received the iF Design Award 2023, became the Red Dot 2023, and was announced late last year. Deliveries are set for sometime in mid-2024. The 07 is Jiyue’s second car after the Jiyue 01, which was also announced in 2023.

The Jiyue 07 showcases a sleek and sporty design. Its closed front end features prominent air deflectors on the bumper, giving it an athletic appearance. The vehicle features handleless doors that can be operated through voice commands, an important function that should be tested in freezing temperatures.

The Jiyue 07’s rear boasts a minimalist aesthetic, enhanced by continuous taillights that add a modern touch. To tackle cold weather challenges, the vehicle incorporates an efficient thermal management system using heat pumps to aid in rapid cabin heating. Additionally, an adaptive defrosting system prevents fogging and frost accumulation on the windshield, improving visibility in adverse weather conditions.

Beyond its cold-weather performance, the Jiyue 07 offers intelligent features, leveraging Baidu’s AI capabilities and Geely’s SEA architecture (which is also used by every Zeekr model, Polestar 4, Volvo EX90, Volvo EX30, etc). Unlike many other Chinese manufacters that incorporate things like Lidar into its intelligent driving tech, the Jiyue 07 only uses cameras (similar to the Tesla vehicles). The car aims to provide a connected driving experience, and upgrades to its voice command and intelligent driving systems are planned for the future.

As anticipation builds for its official debut at the Beijing Auto Show, the Jiyue 07 has the potential to be an exciting addition to the expanding and very competitive electric vehicle landscape. CarNewsChina will monitor updates regarding its price and delivery schedule.
