On January 3, Chery officially launched its Fengyun A8 plug-in hybrid sedan in China with a price range of 119,900 – 149,900 yuan (16,700 – 21,000 USD). Consumers can choose from a total of four models. Fengyun (Fulwin) is a new energy vehicle series under Chery.

The Chery Fengyun A8 is positioned as a compact sedan, with a body size of 4780/1843/1487 mm and a wheelbase of 2790 mm. Four exterior body colors are offered: black, white, gray, and blue.

In the front, the large trapezoidal grille is eye-catching and is connected to the headlights.

The rear adopts an upturned tail design above the trunk, which further enhances the agility of the car. Other elements include the through-type taillights and a hidden exhaust layout. The rims are available in both 16-inch and 17-inch options.

Inside, the cockpit has a 12.3-inch instrument panel, a 12.3-inch central control screen, and a four-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, powered by Chery’s Lion 5.0 operating system. Only the high-end models come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.

The entire series comes standard with navigation, OTA updates, Bluetooth, remote control through the app, and karaoke functions. Both CarPlay and HiCar are also supported.

In addition, the level 2 advanced driving assistance system is only available on high-end models, which support front and rear collision warning, automatic emergency braking, full-speed range adaptive cruise control, and lane merge assist.

Power comes from Chery’s Kunpeng Super Performance Electric Hybrid C-DM system consisting of a fifth-generation ACTECO 1.5TGDI hybrid engine (115 kW/220 Nm) and a permanent magnet synchronous motor (150 kW/310 Nm), mated to a DHT150. The comprehensive system power and torque are 265 kW and 530 Nm. Its 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 7 seconds.

In addition, its 18.3 kWh lithium battery pack provides a pure electric cruising range of 127 km (CLTC) and more than 1,400 km comprehensive range (WLTC), according to Chery. Under fast charging, it takes 19 minutes to replenish the battery from 30% to 80%, while slow charging takes three hours.
