YangWang U9 electric supercar was spotted wearing fancy orange in the streets of China. The BYD applied for U9’s sales license last week, and the car will start deliveries next year.

YangWang is a flagship brand under BYD. It revealed three vehicles since its launch in January 2023. The U8 hardcore SUV and U9 supercar were unveiled at the YangWang launch conference on January 5. In September, YangWang surprisingly unveiled its third car: a U6 sedan with the lowest drag coefficient among production cars, 0.195 Cd. The U8 started deliveries in November for 1,080,000 yuan (152,000 USD).

The U9 sits on an e4 platform and its dimensions are 4966/2029/1295 mm, wheelbase of 2900 mm. The curb weight is 2475 kg. The electricity will be stored in BYD’s 100 kWh LFP blade battery.

The supersport packs four electric 240 kW motors with a combined output of 960 kW (1287 hp) and a 300 km/h top speed cap. BYD announced that the acceleration time for 0-100 km/h is 2 seconds. It is equipped with a Disus-X intelligent body control system, which allows the car to drive on three wheels, jump 150 mm on demand, or do various dancing moves. Obviously, this s is only to showcase the possibilities of the Disus suspension system and e4 platform.

U9 was spotted testing on the track with glowing brakes, which is unusual for sports cars, as its ceramic brakes are designed to withstand such conditions. But it is always lovely to watch supersport being pushed to its limits.

The YangWang U9 is ahead of other Chinese electric vehicles in terms of power output. Even performance flagships from brands like HiPhi A, Zeekr 001 FR, and GAC Aion Hyper SSR have fewer horses. The price hasn’t been announced yet, but it is expected to be around 1 million yuan (140k USD).

In September, CarNewsChina reported that YangWang is taking over stores and service centers of luxurious legacy brands such as BMW, Aston Martin, and Mercedes-Benz. YangWang plans to have 80 directly operated stores in China by the end of 2023. In November, it opened the first batch of 22 stores in tier-one states such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Chengdu.

The direct sales model is new for BYD, which traditionally relied on a vast dealer network for its main brand.
