SGMW’s Wuling Starlight will hit the market on December 6. The pre-sales started at Guangzhou Auto Show in November for 93,800 to 109,800 yuan (13,200 – 15,500 USD).

Wulign Starlight (Xingguang in Chinese) sedan will come in plugin hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric (BEV) versions. The first deliveries will cover customers who want PHEV, and the BEV will follow in early 2024.

SGMW is a Sino-American joint venture between GM, SAIC, and Wuling. Wuling is also the name of the brand under SGMW. Their most successful EV is the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, and the recently launched Wuling Bingo entry-level hatchback (8,500 USD) competes head-to-head with BYD Seagull in China.

Starlight is a five-seater with a 4835/1860/1515 mm chassis on a 2800 mm wheelbase. The EV has a 75 kW motor from ESC10 and Qianyi Tech. The top speed is 150 km/h, and the curb weight is 1600 kg. The battery is lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP). REPT and Heating Power will be the suppliers. The battery capacity will be revealed later.

The PHEV version will carry an LFP battery pack supplied by Zenergy and Huating Power. The capacity has also yet to be revealed. The PHEV will use a 100 kW motor from Inboer Electric Co., Ltd. The 78 kW internal combustion engine is from Liuzhou Saike Tech. The battery of an entry-level PHEV will be 9.5 kWh, good for a 70 km CLTC range, and the top trim level will have a 20.5 kWh pack suitable for a 150 km BEV-only range.

Inside the car, you find two screens – a 15.6″ central control screen and an 8.8″ instrument panel in front of the driver. It runs on Wuling’s Ling OS. The trunk space is 540L, and an additional 33L space is under the seat carpet. The drag coefficient is 0.228cd.

Wuling Starlight is SGMW’s answer to BYD Qin Plus, which will be its main competitor in China.
