The Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) Haval brand will release a new SUV model next year named Veyron. The SUV will be positioned higher than the recently released Haval Raptor and compete with Aito M7, BYD Tang DM, and other SUVs in the 200,000 yuan (27,000 USD) segment.

Like the fourth model under the Dragon series, Haval Raptor, Veyron will also carry GWM’s Hi4 plug-in hybrid system. Hi4 has two powertrain sets at its disposal: 1.5L+DHT+P4 and 1.5T+DHT+P4. Both systems offer a combined power of 340 kW. GWM claims that the dual motor design with parallel and series connections between the front and rear axles enables a four-wheel drive (4WD) experience on a two-wheel drive (2WD) energy consumption.

The Hi4 can be combined with the GWM’s Intelligent Torque Vector Control System (ITVC) and Intelligent Energy Management System to ensure efficient operation of the vehicle’s power system in all speed ranges and scenarios.

The name Veyron first showed up in a Haval’s filing for Haval Raptor’s sales permit. The filing showed the off-road SUV has several other names including Big Dog Pro, Thunderbolt Dog and Veyron. Although it was speculated that these will be the Raptor’s future versions, it seems the car brand did not decide the name of the Raptor at the time and included other names registered as trademarks.

The local analysts speculate the SUV will be a 7-seater that will carry GWM’s new generation of the ADAS. The Veyron will probably carry 278 kW motor with 750 Nm torque and 115 km WLTC range in an electric mode. The interior of the PHEV should be more luxurious compared to the Raptor.

Haval has three series under its name. H-series, which focuses on classic, urban SUVs. The Dog series is dedicated to light off-road vehicles (ORVs), and the Dragon series revolves around new energy vehicles. This year, Haval already launched Big Dog’s second generation, 2024 Big Dog, Fierce Dragon, and Raptor.

Based on Haval’s statements, the brand is focused on 100,000-200,000 yuan (13,700-27,400 USD). H- and Dog-series are aimed at the 100,0000-140,000 yuan (13,700-19,200 USD) market because this segment does not have a premium and can only rely on consumers’ approval. The Dragon series is more focused on the 140,000-200,000 yuan market.
