The Hyundai ix25 SUV will hit the Chinese car market in October. The Hyundai ix25 debuted as a concept on the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. The production version will debut on the Chengdu Auto Show in September. The ix25 will give Hyundai a brand new contender in the hotly competed compact-SUV segment. Price will start around 140.000 yuan and end around 170.000 yuan.

The ix25 will be manufactured in China by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture to compete with cars such as the popular Ford Ecosport and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun. The ix25 is based on the platform of the Kia Soul, which is made in China by the Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia joint venture.

New news on the engines: earlier on we heard the Hyundai ix25 would be powered by a 1.6 and a 1.4, both mated to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. The latest reports however indicate the ix25 will get 1.6 and a 2.0, mated to a 6-speed manual. We are not so sure as the 2.0 seems an engine too large for the ix25. Hyundai hasn’t officially confirmed anything on the engines yet. We will keep you posted…
