Fornasari 99 arrives on the Chinese auto market

The first Fornasari 99 has arrived in China. It is imported by a dealer in Chengdu who runs the website www.fornasarichina.com. We are not so sure whether this is all official because the international site of Formasari doesn’t mention any Chinese dealer. However that may be, to see the Formasari 99 in China is a very good thing, because it is a very mad car…

The Fornasari 99 is a super sporty SUV made by ‘Fornasari Cars’ from Italy. Fornasari was founded in 1999 by Giuseppe Fornasari. The company makes various sports cars and SUV, some even more mad than others. The Formasari 99, sometimes called RR99, is the flagship model.

The 99 is available with four different engines, all from Chevrolet: LS3 6.2 liter V8 with 500hp, LS7 7 liter V8 with 550hp, LS9 6.2 liter V8 with 650hp, and an even hotter LS9 6.2 with 750hp. The white Fornasari 99 in Chengdu is powered by the LS7, torque is 748nm. Top speed is 280 km/h and 0-1– is gone in 3.8 seconds.

The 99 might look sleek but it is a big car: 5200/2180/1850, wheelbase is 3250. For caparison the ‘gigantic’ Infiniti QX56: 5290/2030/1925, wheelbase is 3075. Only slightly bigger, especially higher, but the wheelbase is shorter. Formasari claims a weight distribution of exactly 50/50. Drive train is 4×4 with 60% going to the back and 40 to the front. This thing might corner!

Price yet unknown but sources say it won’t go for less than 3 million yuan. Only competition in that segment comes from the 3.78 million yuan Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG, which is already sold out in China. The Lamborghini Urus is at least 3 years away, if it ever comes, meaning the 99 is alone.
