Spotted in China: 964 Porsche 911 RS America
Yesterday we posted a post on an extremely rare 964 Porsche 911. We promptly received a telegram from a friend of a friend in in the great city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province, who had spotted a Porsche even more special… This is the extremely-extremely rare 964 Porsche 911 RS America. It was only made in 1993 and 1994 and all cars went to the US.
It was based on the US-spec Carrera 2 and came with the “whale tail” spoiler, a stripped interior and a luggage shelf replacing the rear seats. Sports seats, 17 inch wheels and M030 Sports Suspension were all standard. The logo “RS America” was written on the deck lid and in front of the rear wheels. Deleted to save weight were power steering, cruise control, powered side mirrors, air-conditioning, sunroof and even the radio. The 3.6 flat-six was good for 260hp and 312nm. This thing was speed!
How this beauty ended up in China we don’t know, but it seems very likely that is way imported via the gray market in recent years. Note license plate, the ‘9’ is a very lucky number in China as well, and indeed we are all very lucky to see this great automachine driving around town. Next time I go to Chengdu I’ll be on the lookout…
