China-made Mercedes-Benz GLK launched on the Chinese car market

The Mercedes-Benz GLK has been launched on the Chinese car market, it is made in China by the Beijing-Benz joint venture that also makes the c-class and E-class. Price starts at 408.000 yuan and ends at 557.000 yuan. Lone engine is the 3.0 V6 with 240hp and 300nm.

The price is steep for a locally made car, the engine however is imported which drives the price up. Mercedes-Benz is considering offering smaller and locally made engines in the GLK in the future. Lower price in this segment of the market means higher sales. The GLK will compete against fine cars such as the Audi Q5, BMW X1 and the imported Volvo XC60 which incidentally starts at exactly the same price. I guess Mercedes-Benz will make a handsome profit on each GLK sold…
