Yesterday I found a nice new toy car in China. It is a small baby, only 10 centimeters long and made of plastic. Price was a neat 10 yuan, or 1.6 USD. For its size and price this truck is very well detailed, with double headlights, blacked out wheels and the People’s Liberation Army’s emblem on the doors.

The real thing is a mighty Chinese army truck, the First Auto Works Jiefang. Known as the workhorse of the army, it transports everything from people to food to ammunition to guns, it can easily tow a cannon as well. The PLA has some 50.000 on active duty. The name ‘Jiefang’ means Liberation and harks back to the very first China-made truck, in 1956, with the same name.

Another fine addition to my collection it is, indeed.
