The new and cheap ‘American Passat’, fka MMS, will be made in China by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture. The Passat will debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April and will be listed in May.

Engines for the Chinese market: 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI. The more expensive European Passat, called Magotan in China, will continue as a seperate model. Some reports in Chinese media suggest the 1.4 TSI engine is delayed for a yet unknown reason, we’ll keep you posted on that one.
